When you visit the North Shore of Lake Superior and you're not shopping at WatersEdge Trading Company, there are plenty of other activities to entertain you.

Hiking

The Superior Hiking Trail is just outside our door. It encompasses over 200 miles of trail mostly routed along the ridge line of the Sawtooth Mountains overlooking Lake Superior. There are camp sights along the way, cascading rivers, and many panoramic overlooks of the Lake Superior and inland lakes. The trail can be accessed at many different locations along Highway 61.

Biking

Soon we will have a bike trail that runs the length of the North Shore from Duluth to the Canadian border. Some parts are already completed. We also have mountain biking on countless logging roads and forests for you to explore. Bikes can be rented at Bluefin Bay (1-800-Bluefin). The Lutsen Mountain Bike Park offers bikes for rent on scenic touring trails or advanced terrain. 218-663-7281. The Gitchi-Gami paved biking / walking path will run from Two Harbors to Grand Marais. Kayaking

One way to seen the North Shore is from the water in a kayak. The Lake Superior Water Trail has been developed primarily for sea kayakers and is intended to circumnavigate Lake Superior's coast. The Minnesota portion will eventually extend from Duluth to the Canadian border. If you are a beginner or needing to rent, Cascade Kayaks can set you up. (1-800-720-2809) or www.cascadekayaks.com. North Shore Fishing Museum

This museum was built to replicate the fish houses that sat across the bay from the current site. Through relics and artifacts, pictures and personal stories, the history of fishing and it's founders unfolds. The Lutsen Tofte Tourism Assn. is also housed in the museum. For more information call

State Parks

There are 8 State Parks along the North Shore along a 150 mile line. Permits are required and allow entrance to all parks. Parks are open all year, however some visitor centers are closed or have shorter winter hours. In geographical order from SE to NE they are, Gooseberry Falls, Split Rock, Tettegouche, Crosby Manitou, Temperance River, Cascade River, Judge CR Magney, and Grand Portage.

Fishing

If you're in search of that big fish, we have it all; big lake fishing, inland lake fishing and stream fishing. You can go on your own or hire a guide or a charter boat. Right next to us at Bluefin Bay, Captain Darren Peck operates Tofte Charters. He comes highly recommended with 10 years experience on Lake Superior. Paddle the Boundary Water Canoe Area Wilderness

The entrance to the Boundary Waters is just up the Sawbill Trail which departs Hwy 61 just across the street from us. Take a day paddle or an extended trip into this beautiful relaxing area. Winter Activities

Up North we love winter and so we get out and play in it. Join us for some.....



Snowshoeing

This is a great way to enjoy the outdoors and wildlife while quietly trekking through the woods. Snowshoe rentals are available at a number of resorts and shops. We have "Atlas" snowshoes for sale here at WatersEdge Trading Company.

Snowmobiling

The North Shore State Corridor Trail is a well groomed trail and runs through the backwoods with views of Lake Superior, ridges, lakes, and forests. One of the prettiest trails anywhere.

Cross Country Skiing

The North Shore Mountain Trail system has over 200 kilometers of groomed trails. The terrain varies enough to challenge the beginner skier or the expert. There are many interconnecting trails so skiers with differing abilities can go out together. This trail winds through the Sawtooth Mountains with views of Lake Superior from the ridgetops.

Downhill Skiing



We are only 10 minutes away from the best skiing in the Midwest. Lutsen Mountain has the longest run and most vertical rise in the Midwest. There are 4 mountains with runs for all skill levels. The views of Lake Superior from the top of the runs is spectacular!

Checking Out the Wildlife

Take a drive or a hike to get a closer look at moose, bear, eagles, wolves, red fox, bobcats and more. They are illusive but there have been many sightings.
